Forbes Ranks CB Top WA-Based Bank Again
Columbia Bank has again been named the best bank headquartered in Washington state and the second best bank headquartered in the Northwest by the Forbes list of America's Best and Worst Banks. The 2013 list announced Tuesday, December 18th ranks Columbia 30th in the nation, up four places from the previous year and ahead of Key Bank, Chase, US Bank, Wells Fargo and Bank of America.
"We are honored to be listed so favorably amongst the nation's banks and those in our Pacific Northwest community," said Melanie Dressel, President and Chief Executive Officer of Tacoma-based Columbia Bank and its parent company, Columbia Banking System, Inc. "We strive to be the best community bank in each of the communities we serve. This recognition can be attributed to our ongoing commitment to providing businesses and individuals in the Northwest with a strong and secure community bank."
Ranking on the list was determined using data provided from SNL Financial and was based on regulatory filings of public banks and thrifts through the third quarter of 2012. Eight key financial metrics were used in the analysis and include: return on average equity; net interest margin; nonperforming loans (NPLs) as a percentage of loans; nonperforming assets as percentage of assets; reserves as a percentage of NPLs; two capital ratios (Tier 1 and risk-based); and leverage ratio.
