In many ways, the homelessness crisis exists in both the present and the future. For those living on the streets tonight, the crisis is about getting warm and staying out of the harsh elements – now. Additionally, the chronic situation of living without stable housing is a crisis that must be addressed long-term.
At Bonner Homeless Transitions located in Sandpoint, Idaho, we work hard every day to address both the short-term and long-term needs of those experiencing homelessness, and that is why we are so thrilled to partner with Columbia Bank on the Warm Hearts Winter Drive and the Warm Homes initiative.
Bonner Homeless Transitions provides transitional housing and program management services to homeless families and victims of domestic violence in Bonner County, located in Idaho’s northern panhandle. Our goal is to help individuals and families who are homeless, in danger of becoming homeless, or who lack adequate housing reach self-sufficiency and independent living in a safe and supportive environment.
Our housing programs include assisting individuals and families with case management, food, clothing, medical assistance, transportation assistance, counseling services and skills classes such as budgeting, employment, parenting and nutrition. We also provide resource and referral information with our collaborative partners within the community and throughout the region.
In order to help us continue and build upon our mission, Columbia Bank provided us with a grant to fund programs to implement even more solutions that can help break the cycle of homelessness. Through the Warm Homes initiative, a sister program to the Warm Hearts Winter Drive, Columbia is expanding its support of struggling families and individuals. The one-time grant making initiative is designed to help people experiencing homelessness find opportunities for sustainable housing.
In short, the Columbia Bank Warm Hearts Winter Drive and the Warm Homes initiative are tremendous examples of how businesses can make a direct impact on people in our community struggling with homelessness, tonight and tomorrow. Your support of these programs plays a critical role in ending this cycle of poverty and homelessness.
