With your help, we were able to raise $209,335.96 in the 2016 Warm Hearts Winter Drive! Through generous contributions from customers, employees and community members, we exceeded the funds raised in 2015 by 32.8 percent. One hundred percent of those funds, along with the 8,140 warm winter items that were collected, are being distributed to 54 shelters and organizations who work to support men, women and children impacted by homelessness during the cold and wet winter season.
In the midst of collecting donations and warm winter items to support local shelters, we witnessed several heartwarming moments illustrating the message and spirit of Warm Hearts.
Personal banker Cheyenne Hulit-Pulicella and her colleagues at The Dalles branch in Oregon had an unexpected visitor who arrived with a heartwarming gift. A customer, who wished to remain anonymous, visited The Dalles branch with a special gift for Warm Hearts – $3,000.00 worth of brand new coats, gloves, hats and shoes!
“All of us in the branch are truly amazed by how much this man donated,” said Cheyenne. “It’s amazing how giving and caring people are this time of year!”
This act of warmth is a testament to how a single person can have a big impact when it comes to giving back.
The Lacey branch received a generous donation from a customer who self-identified as a homeless veteran. The customer, who lives in a travel-trailer and was previously living on the streets for seven years, donated because of how grateful he was to receive support while he was unsheltered.
“He told us how cold he would get and how much it meant when someone gave him a jacket or a blanket,” said branch supervisor Annette Standifur-Metz. Despite his own unmet needs, he said he made his generous donation because “we homeless have to stick together.”
This generous customer is an excellent example of how those who have the least often give the most, and we are grateful for his contribution to the Warm Hearts Winter Drive.
A longtime customer of the Wandermere Branch donated 270 hats to help support the Warm Hearts Winter Drive. The collection included hats for women, men and children that will be donated to their partner shelter, the Family Promise of Spokane.
“His generosity is greatly appreciated and shows that there are wonderful people out there who are willing to help unselfishly regardless of the cost,” said teller Somnook Yingst. We are grateful for this customer’s generous donation supporting the greater Spokane community!
We are grateful for the support we received for the Warm Hearts Winter Drive in all of the communities we serve. We are so proud of everyone who was involved in making this year’s drive an amazing success. For more information, please click here or visit WarmHeartsWinterDrive.com.
