Columbia Bank in the Community

by User Not Found | Nov 18, 2015

As a community bank, we know that being active and engaged in the community is incredibly important, and encourage all of our Columbia Bank colleagues to help in whatever way they can. With the holidays just around the corner, we wanted to give some recognition to some of the wonderful work our team does here in the Pacific Northwest.

Rebuilding Together South Sound
On April 25th, over 25 Columbia Bank employees volunteered their time to Rebuilding Together South Sound and helped a local family repair their home. The group accomplished an incredible amount and was able to fix a large hole in the side of the house (which was a major safety concern), patch the walls of a bathroom and install a new tub, paint the interior of the home, fence off the children’s play area, put up drywall in the basement to create additional bedrooms, clear the gutters, and much more.

Communities in Schools
In September, Communities in Schools of Peninsula presented the first-ever Legacy Award to Allisha McVay (Branch Manager, Gig Harbor), a founding board member. Allisha was recognized by past board chair Cheri Johnson, who credits her with creating a strong foundation for Communities In Schools of Peninsula.

“Allisha was an early supporter and board member of CISP, “ said Johnson. “It is in large part through her dedication to helping the organization get started and funded that CISP has realized such growth and success. Allisha is an involved community member and we are fortunate that she took on a leadership role in our early days.  On behalf of the organization and our entire region, we honor her work, her commitment and her legacy with Communities In Schools.”

American Heart Association
Columbia Bank has been a proud supporter of the American Heart Association for years, and for years Columbia Bank employees have found creative and engaging ways to support this important cause.  In 2015 we decided to coordinate our approach to fundraising, leveraging the website, social media, local teams and the results speak for themselves. Thanks to these efforts, the 2015 Columbia Bank Puget Sound area AHA campaign raised $22,785!  That is nearly double the amount raised for 2014. That we are thrilled at these results is an understatement!

What’s Next?
With winter weather right around the corner and the holiday season quickly approaching, many of our less fortunate neighbors need our help more than ever. This week, CB employees will be serving up hot meals to the homeless in an effort to help out local shelters. The Tacoma Rescue Mission, Seattle's Union Gospel Mission - Men's Shelter Pioneer Square, and Seattle Union Gospel Mission – Hope Place all do incredible work in our area and consistently provide meals, shelter, and other services to thousands of people in need every single day.

Columbia Bank strongly believes in community and knows that the key to being a great community bank is the community part, which is why we are so involved here in the Pacific Northwest and are always looking to give back. We hope that you feel the same way and decide to volunteer your time or make a donation this holiday season.
