Protecting your personal information is a high priority to Columbia Bank. Through our diligent research, we have confirmed that Columbia Bank’s website or any of our personal online banking, mobile banking, or business online banking channels are not at risk from the Heartbleed vulnerability.
We are continuously implementing new tools and procedures to protect your personal information. Advancements in technology provide us with tools and resources that allow us to provide increasingly sophisticated security measures. We always recommend implementing the following procedures and utilizing the security tools available to help protect your personal information online:
Install Anti-virus software – downloading anti-virus software for your computer can help protect your computer against viruses, worms and other security threats. It is also important to keep your anti-virus software current with any updates. Install a Firewall – A firewall can help protect your computer by preventing hackers or malicious software from gaining access to it.
Install Spyware and other malware protection – installing anti-spyware can help protect your computer from spyware and other potentially unwanted software. Columbia offers Trusteer Rapport; security software that helps to protect your online banking session by blocking malicious attempts to access or steal your personal information and login credentials. It also works alongside your existing firewall and antivirus software solutions to provide added protection. Click here for more information and links to download. Keep Your System Up to Date – Your operating system, such as Windows or OSX, release critical security updates on a regular basis. Be sure to routinely check for updates or choose to have them install automatically to ensure your system is always updated with the most current security patches. Change Your Password – It is important to change your password on a regular basis. We recommend that you avoid using the same password for all of the services you access online. Make sure your password is complex, using a combination of upper and lower case alphabetical characters and numbers while keeping in mind any password restrictions and requirements the online service-provider may have.
